Is a child seat compulsory in a taxi?
Yes. In the Netherlands, taxis are no longer exempt from the child seat requirement. Children under 135 cm or 36 kg must sit in an approved child seat in a taxi too. This applies to all journeys on public roads — including to Schiphol.
Exceptions are:
- If the taxi has no child seat and you do not bring one yourself, a child aged 3 or over may sit on the back seat with a seat belt — but only if no seat is available. It is always safer to arrange a seat.

Travelling with a baby or toddler? Most airlines let you check in extra items free of charge:
- Pushchair: almost always free as hold luggage
- Car seat: free with most airlines (check your ticket)
- Nappy bag: with many airlines this counts as a personal item, not as extra hand luggage
Also mention the child seat and the pushchair in your taxi booking — then we will make sure you get a vehicle with enough luggage space.
