Heemstede is a leafy residential municipality directly south of Haarlem, characterised by large gardens, the Groenendaal woodland park and a population that skews towards families and retirees. It is quiet, well-off and poorly served by the kind of dense public transport that makes airport journeys simple without a car.

The drive to Schiphol covers roughly 24 kilometres in 20 to 35 minutes, usually via the N201 or the A9 depending on the exact address and the time of day. It is one of the shorter journeys we operate and among the more predictable, since the route avoids both Amsterdam and central Haarlem.

Heemstede has a railway station on the Haarlem–Leiden line, but reaching Schiphol from it means changing at Haarlem or Leiden and allowing for waiting time. For an early flight, or for two people with a suitcase each, a door-to-door car at a fixed price removes the transfer and the arithmetic that goes with it.
