What is Kiss & Ride at Schiphol?
Kiss & Ride is the drop-off zone at the airport, intended for dropping off travellers and unloading luggage — not for parking or waiting.
The idea is in the name: a quick 'kiss and go'. You stop, let someone get out, unload the suitcases and drive straight on. Schiphol's car parks, such as P1 and P3, are intended for longer stays.
Good to know
Kiss & Ride is intended solely for dropping off and unloading. Staying or parking there is not allowed and can result in a fine. If you are coming to pick someone up, Schiphol refers you to P1 Halen en Brengen (pick-up and drop-off).
Where is Kiss & Ride at Schiphol?
The zones are upstairs, in front of Departure Halls 1, 2 and 3 — not downstairs at arrivals. So you drive to the departures side and drop your passenger off close to the right departure hall.
This means there is not one Kiss & Ride at Schiphol but three, and they are hundreds of metres apart. That is why you should check in advance which departure hall your passenger needs — 1, 2 or 3. Just saying "at the Kiss & Ride" is not specific enough at Schiphol.
The layout of the zones and the signage may change during works. For the current situation and a map, the official explanation is on schiphol.nl.
What does Kiss & Ride cost and how long can you stop?
Kiss & Ride is free and you do not need to book. There is no charge per minute and you do not have to pay anywhere.
There is, however, a clear rule: the zone is only for dropping off and unloading. Staying or parking is not allowed, and anyone who does so anyway can be fined. So do not count on 'free minutes' to wait: it is stop, unload and drive on. For the current rules, see schiphol.nl.
If you are waiting for someone who still has to land, Kiss & Ride is therefore not the place. For that, Schiphol refers you to P1 Halen en Brengen.
Picking someone up: where do you wait for your passenger?
When picking someone up, the risk is the timing. You know when the aircraft lands, but not how long the baggage belt and passport control will take — and at Kiss & Ride you are not allowed to stay and wait.
What works in practice:
- Park in P1 Halen en Brengen. That is where Schiphol refers people collecting someone; from there you walk to the arrivals hall in 2–6 minutes.
- Follow the flight. Only set off once you can see when the aircraft will actually land, so you do not park longer than necessary.
- Agree on a fixed meeting point in the arrivals hall, so you find each other straight away.
If the flight is delayed, the situation is reversed: then you are the one waiting and paying for parking. That is exactly the case in which a taxi turns out to be more convenient — the driver follows the flight and the delay costs you nothing.
Rules and tips for Kiss & Ride
- Only drop off and unload — staying or parking is not allowed and can result in a fine.
- Stay with your car — do not leave it unattended.
- Choose the right departure hall (1, 2 or 3) and follow the signs to Kiss & Ride.
- Picking someone up? Use P1 Halen en Brengen instead of Kiss & Ride.
- Nothing to pay — Kiss & Ride is free and needs no booking.
Kiss & Ride or taxi? When a taxi is more convenient
Kiss & Ride works perfectly well if someone can take you. When it comes to collecting you, the difference lies in who is left waiting.
If a family member picks you up, they are the one waiting in P1 while your flight comes in — with parking costs running and without knowing how long the baggage belt will take. If you book a taxi, the driver follows your flight number live and waits for you upstairs at Departure Hall 2, exit F.
- No driving, searching or parking stress for your family or colleagues
- The delay itself costs nothing — we adjust the pick-up time accordingly. After landing you also get 45 minutes of free waiting time, plenty of time for baggage and customs
- Door to door: we pick you up at home and take you to the right departure hall
