Night taxi to Schiphol: planning early flights without stress

An early flight has its advantages — low fares, a quiet airport, a better chance of an upgrade. But sleeping badly the night before, an alarm at 03:30 and then looking for transport in the dark: that is less fun. In this article you can read how to arrange a night taxi to Schiphol, how early you need to leave and why a fixed-price taxi considerably reduces the stress of early morning flights.

What is a night taxi to Schiphol?

A night taxi to Schiphol is a taxi journey that takes place during the night — roughly between 22:00 and 07:00. These are journeys for early morning flights (the most common) or journeys from Schiphol after late-evening arrivals. In practice, most customers ask for a night taxi for flights departing between 06:00 and 08:00 — flights for which you need to leave home by 04:00 or 05:00 at the latest.

AMS Taxi Schiphol operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week — including Sundays and public holidays. There is no surcharge for night journeys, weekends or early times. The price you see when booking is the price you pay.

Good to know

The earliest scheduled flight from Schiphol usually departs around 05:30. Following the advice of Schiphol and KLM (2 hours before a flight within Europe), you then need to be at the airport by around 03:30.

How early should you leave for an early flight?

As a rule of thumb: your driving time plus at least 2 hours before the departure time. Schiphol and KLM advise being at Schiphol 2 hours before departure for flights within Europe, and 3 hours for intercontinental flights. In the early morning (before 07:00), however, the queues at check-in, security and passport control are considerably shorter than during the day.

A few guidelines for early flights:

  • Flight 05:30 → leave home by 03:00 at the latest (from Haarlem/Beverwijk)
  • Flight 06:00 → leave home by 03:30 at the latest (from Haarlem/Beverwijk)
  • Flight 06:30 → leave home by 04:00 at the latest (from Haarlem/Beverwijk)
  • Flight 07:00 → leave home by 04:30 at the latest (from Haarlem/Beverwijk)

From towns further away — such as Alkmaar, Hoorn or Zaandam — add 20 to 35 minutes. AMS Taxi Schiphol always plans the pick-up time together with you, so you arrive in good time.

Why not take the train for early morning flights?

Early in the morning only a few trains run from Haarlem and the surrounding area, and you often have to change. For an early flight the train is therefore awkward: you will not always reach Schiphol in time. Check the NS journey planner.

There are also practical drawbacks:

  • Carrying luggage on platforms, through busy corridors and through turnstiles
  • No direct connection from every village and district
  • P+R costs if you drive to the station anyway
  • No certainty if the train itself is delayed

A direct night taxi from door to terminal is by far the most practical and stress-free choice for early flights.

How does flight monitoring work at AMS Taxi Schiphol?

AMS Taxi Schiphol tracks your flight live using the flight number you give when booking. If your flight is delayed, the driver automatically adjusts the pick-up time for the return journey — you are never left waiting unnecessarily long at the baggage belt.

For outbound journeys (from home to Schiphol), we use the scheduled departure time as the starting point for the pick-up time. We always plan in a generous buffer, so you arrive comfortably on time even if there are traffic jams on the A9 or A10.

Good to know

If your flight is delayed on the return journey, AMS Taxi Schiphol automatically adjusts the pick-up time — at no extra cost.
