What is a fixed-price taxi?
A fixed-price taxi is a taxi where the price is set before the trip — regardless of the actual journey time or distance. You see the price when you book and pay exactly that amount.
At AMS Taxi Schiphol:
- Fixed price per route — Haarlem → Schiphol = €55, always
- No surcharges for traffic jams, early or late trips, or extra luggage
- No surprises afterwards — the price on the confirmation is the final price
- VAT included — no hidden costs
Good to know
The AMS Taxi Schiphol fixed price is based on the average journey time and distance per route — including a buffer for normal traffic. So you never pay more than necessary for a quiet trip, and never more than promised for a busy one.
Fixed price vs. meter: the difference
With a metered taxi, a meter starts running as soon as you get in. That meter keeps running:
- In traffic jams and delays
- When the driver takes a detour (intentional or not)
- With slow, stop-start city driving
- With extra waiting time
For a trip from Haarlem to Schiphol, a metered taxi on a busy Friday morning can cost €70–€90 instead of the expected €55. That is 25–60% more than a fixed price.
With a fixed-price taxi, this cannot happen. Whether you drive for 30 or 50 minutes — you pay the same.
Fixed price vs. Uber: who wins when?
Uber works with dynamic pricing — also known as 'surge pricing'. The higher the demand, the higher the price. At busy times (early Friday morning, Monday morning, just after big events), an Uber trip to Schiphol can cost 1.5× to 3× the normal price.
Comparison for Haarlem → Schiphol:
- Quiet time: Uber approx. €45–€55, fixed-price taxi €55 → equal
- Busy time (2× surge pricing): Uber approx. €90–€110, fixed-price taxi €55 → taxi wins
- Early in the morning (4:00): Uber surge pricing almost always active → taxi wins
For airport trips — which often take place early or at busy times — a fixed price is almost always better value than Uber. Also read our taxi vs. Uber comparison.
Good to know
Uber's surge pricing is automatic and can double or triple within minutes. With an early flight or on a busy day, the Uber price is unpredictable — with AMS Taxi Schiphol you always pay the same.

When is a metered taxi the better choice?
To be fair: a metered taxi can be cheaper if:
- You are making a short trip in town (less than 10 km) and the route is certain
- There is no traffic and you take a taxi at a quiet time
- You take a taxi on the spur of the moment without booking
For an airport trip, however, a fixed price is nearly always better — trips to Schiphol are long enough for the risk of traffic jams to be real, and you do not want surprises on the day you travel.
