Lost something at Schiphol: where do you report it?
Schiphol has its own lost property department: Schiphol Lost & Found. There are three desks:
- Kelderplein (before security, between Arrivals 1 and 2, one floor down): daily 08:00–20:00. This is where you collect found items.
- Lounge 1 (after security, towards pier B): daily 06:00–20:00
- Holland Boulevard (after security, between piers E and F): daily 06:00–20:00
You can also report your lost item online using the form on the Schiphol website, or search for it yourself with the online search service. Schiphol Lost & Found can be reached by phone on +31 (0)20 333 0333. Already back home? A found item can also be delivered to you by courier.
Good to know
Tens of thousands of lost items are handed in at Schiphol every year. The items found most often are phones, passports, laptops, glasses and keys.
Left something on the plane?
Did you leave something on the plane? If you notice it while still at the gate, report it there straight away — before the aircraft is cleaned. After that:
1. Report the lost item to Schiphol Lost & Found, using the online form or at one of the desks
2. Give an accurate description: seat number, flight number, date
3. Also follow your airline's procedure
KLM: if you have already left the airport, KLM refers you to Schiphol Lost & Found
Transavia: if you are still at the airport, go to the Lost & Found desk; if you have already left, contact the Transavia Service Centre
Bear in mind that found items are not sent back automatically — you have to collect them yourself or have them delivered by courier.
Lost your passport at Schiphol: what now?
A lost passport is an emergency, especially if you are about to leave. Do the following:
1. Report the loss to the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee: +31 (0)88 958 18 14. Identity documents found at Schiphol go via the Lost & Found desk to the Marechaussee.
2. If you still need to fly and are a Dutch national, you can apply for an emergency passport (noodpaspoort) from the Marechaussee at the Emergency Documents Office in Departure Hall 1 — open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
3. Bring: proof of your journey, an identity document or a sealed BRP extract (Dutch population register), and a passport photo
4. Contact your airline if you need to rebook
An emergency passport costs €60 and is only intended for Dutch nationals who can show that the journey cannot be postponed. It is only valid for the upcoming journey and you hand it in afterwards. At Schiphol you apply for it at the Marechaussee — not at the municipality.

Tips to avoid losing things
- Use an AirTag or Tile in your luggage, your bag and on your keys
- Take a photo of your passport and save it in the cloud
- Keep your passport in a travel wallet around your neck
- Always check your seat before leaving the aircraft
- At security, always put your things back in your bag in the same order
- Take your time at security — rushing is the biggest cause of losing things
